Sex seems to be a sensitive topic that many couples avoid talking about. It can be an embarrassing topic for some. In reality, sex is a crucial conversation that I would recommend you have with your partner, to ensure that both of you are on the same page in regards to expectations.
Research shows that in North America, married couples under 30 years old have sex twice a week on average. For those that are in their 50s, the average frequency is about once a week.
Now, how often should you have sex? What is the advised frequency from experts? Some professionals recommended three times a week. Others suggested that it is healthy to have sex everyday, if possible. Obviously, there is no golden rule. It is just important that you are in touch with your needs and communicate them, as well as taking the time to listen to your partner to better understand his/her needs and desires.
However, there are some scientifically proven benefits of having sex.
Here Are the Advantages of Regular Sex:
Reduced Stress – After sex, your blood pressure reacts less to stressful situations (e.g. work-related stress).
Better Sleep – You sleep better after hitting the gym. Sex gives you the same benefit.
Burning Calories – Sex does burn fat, just like other physical activities. An hour of sex can burn about 275 calories.
Pain Relief – Endorphins, the hormones released during orgasm, help reduce the sensitivity to pain.
Relationship Bonding – Emotional connections will be strengthened through sex. At the very least you are offering each other devoted attention. It is also a great way to express your affection for each other!
So if you are holding out because of old resentment and hurt feelings, you may want to consider letting go and enjoying the benefits of sex! You just may be glad you did. 🙂
