Today is the longest day of the year, which means that you have more daylight today than any other day to do something you really enjoy.
June brings us longer days and more time to enjoy the summer. The weather is warmer, and nature is green and luscious. For most of us in Toronto the winter was cold, long, and seemed never-ending. Take the time to enjoy the outdoors that you were fanaticizing about in March! With today being the longest day of the year, it’s the perfect time to think about your intentions for this summer and set them into action.
At the end of the summer, as the days get shorter and the weather cooler, clients often tell me they feel they didn’t make the most out of their summer. When we’re busy we can let work and our to-do list get the best of us. So this year, after reading this blog, commit ten minutes to setting your intentions for this summer.
What could you do to make this summer memorable? What are the fun things you’ve wanted to do that you haven’t got around to?
Take out a pen and paper and write down the things you’d love to do. Commit to your intentions by texting a friend to do a few of these things with you in the next couple weeks. Write your plans in your calendar, and make plans every few weeks so you’re committed to follow through.
If you don’t plan what you want to do this summer, before you know it, it will be September. Commit to this now. Don’t wait. Don’t do it later.
What have you always wanted to do? Go to the zoo, join beach volleyball, do yoga in the park, go hiking up north, rollerblade, bike, hit a new patio, walk by the water, plan a picnic, go to an outdoor concert. You deserve to enjoy your life and nurture yourself.
Happiness is a lot about looking forward to things. There are so many things about daily life that are out of our control, like work and driving in traffic. But looking forward to things and having fun plans makes the work week a lot easier. So plan the things you want to do this summer.
If you’ve been putting off something you really want to do, why not do that thing today? Take advantage of today by doing something you enjoy. You deserve it!
This summer, you could reconnect with those people in your life you’ve meant to make time for. You could do all the outdoor activities you dream about in the winter months.
Also remember to be present in the moment when you’re doing the things you enjoy. Sometimes we miss these moments because our mind is somewhere else. So commit to these moments, but also commit to being fully present. Learn to fully live your life. The first step can start right now. Enjoy!
